Someday

After we have mastered the wind,
the wave, the tide and gravity, we shall harness
for God
the energies of love.

Then, for the second time in the history of the
world,
man will have discovered Fire.

Fire Walking – A walk of transformation and re-birth

Welcome to the element of fire.  Ever since man first came into contact with it, fire has held an indominable power over him and the quest to control fire goes on to this day.

Fire is synonymous with destruction, creation, re-birth, warmth, survival and many more.  Without the fires to keep us warm in the cold dark winters our lives, our experiences would be very different then they are today.

This site Phoenix Flames was originally created for just this, originally titled ‘Firewalk and empowerment courses through the fires of transformation’.
And just as its namesake, it has gone through the re-birthing process and become more than it started out to be.

Below is some interesting history from around the world, myths about the birth of fire and also the cultures that still practice firewalking today and from the past

According to North American Indian legend, fire was sparked by buffalo hooves thundering across the plains

The Maoris of New Zealand say it was a gift from a god’s blind grandmother, drawn from her fingernails.

In Rome, if the eternal flame in the temple of Vesta (Goddess of the hearth), went out then all activity in the temple would cease.  They believed that the connection between heaven and earth had been severed and must be restored.

Pliny the elder reported that in Rome members of certain families that walked barefoot over hot coals were then exempted from paying taxes.

In medieval Europe, a Florentine walked across a bed of hot coals and was then subsequently canonized as Saint Peter Igneus.

Today fire walking is still very much a part of life in many cultures, being performed regularly in places such as India, Spain, Bulgaria, Fiji and of course now here in England.

Benefits of Fire Walking

So why Firewalk and what might an individual or group gain from such an experience, here are just some of the benefits;

  • Walking the coals, is a life-changing event, a personal experience that will stay with you for life and one that you will refer to often.
  • You will take the experience into your daily life, this can manifest as confidence in the workplace and a shared experience between colleagues when done as a team building experience
  • Overcoming fears and self-limiting beliefs
  • It is a ritual of purification, healing and reverence – burning away the old to make way for the new
  • A rite of passage – Walking as a child and emerging as a man/woman
  • Empowering, you will leave with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment

About my Fire Walks and journey with the flames.

I trained in Scotland with my teacher and soul sister Oona in a week long process of transformation, each and every night our fire family would walk the coals. We would spend the day working and integrating each of the elemental aspects of becoming a Sundoor Firewalk Instructor.

I have always viewed firewalking in two ways both of which I have done.

  • The first can be likened to a bucket list – I have walked on coals yep done that – check.
  • The second is being present with the experience

I practice and teach the art of being present,  for me firewalking is not just about walking on hot coals.  It is an experience of re-birth, of transformation and walking through the fire to burn off that which no longer serves.  This is why I walk the fires regularly, this is why, there will always be another day to burn away the old.  Each year the wheel of life turns and we learn new things, experience new experiences and yes re-visit old patterns in an effort to be a better person.

I love the fire, I always have, it holds a deep fascination and dances to the dance of life forever in a cycle of life – death – rebirth. Fire burns away the old and from the ashes the new grows, stronger healthier and so the cycle continues.

I would be honoured to hold space and facilitate your fire walk.
